"The Battle of Focsani on August 1, 1789 represented an important moment in the Austro-Russian-Turkish war (1787–1792), waged between the Ottoman Empire and the alliance formed by the Habsburg Empire and the Tsarist Empire. The confrontation took place on the territory of Moldova, near the town of Focsani, and opposed the Austro-Russian armies, led by Prince Friedrich Josias of Saxa-Coburg and Russian General Aleksandr Suvorov, to the Ottoman troops under the command of Koca Yusuf Pasha. The importance of this battle lies, primarily, in the efficient cooperation between the two Christian armies, Austrian and Russian, who managed to obtain a clear victory over the Ottomans. This military collaboration showed the potential of a strategic alliance between the major European powers in the face of Ottoman expansion, at a time when the Ottoman Empire was still trying to maintain its influence in Southeast Europe. Also, the victory at Focsani significantly contributed to weakening the Ottoman domination in the Romanian countries and laid the groundwork for other important confrontations, such as the battle of Râmnic (September 22, 1789), where Suvorov achieved another decisive victory. These successes influenced the subsequent evolution of the war and ultimately led to the signing of the Peace of Iasi in 1792, which confirmed major territorial gains for Russia and reduced Ottoman influence in the region."
