Preparatory sketches, fascinating due to the freedom and untimeliness given by pencil or charcoal on paper, as well as the various engraving techniques, have been a proof of mastery, albeit a significant challenge for the grandmasters in the history of art. The Romanian and European Graphic Masterworks Sale brings to the forefront the attempts and successes of renowned artists such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Lucas Cranach, Albrecht Dürer, but also the modern Pierre Auguste Renoir, René Magritte, Henri Matisse, Henry Moore. One should also note the works of Romanian artists that can proudly sit beside the great names of European art. We are talking about Theodor Aman, Nicolae Grigorescu, Nicolae Tonitza, Theodor Pallady, etc.
