This season’s Winter Auction unfolds as an elegant survey of Bulgarian artistic brilliance, bringing together masterworks whose emotional depth and historical presence resonate across generations. Leading the selection is Nikola Mihaylov’s "Little Girl and Her Doll", a tender and exquisitely rendered portrait that embodies the artist’s gift for capturing innocence with profound psychological subtlety. A luminous suite of five oils by Nikola Tanev anchors the modernist core of the auction. Diverse in subject and approach yet unified by his unmistakable radiance, the group culminates in the expansive "A Market in Karlovo", a major composition full of color, atmosphere, and the vivid life of the townscape. Complementing this is a rare, large-scale oil from 1925 by Jules Pascin, whose cosmopolitan sensibility and fluid, expressive line place him among the most celebrated Bulgarian-born artists of the 20th century. The Winter Auction also highlights the visionary spirit of Bulgaria’s postwar artists. Ivan Vukadinov is represented with a work that echoes his meditative, timeless aesthetic, while Dimitar Buyukliiski-Mitchi contributes two striking oils: "Nude" and "Couple", each revealing his trademark blend of dreamlike poetics and expressive force. From the cherished collection of composer Petar Rusinov (1929–2011), a close confidant of Dimitar Kazakov-Neron, comes an exceptional oil by Neron himself, offering an intimate glimpse into the artist’s symbolic and myth-infused universe. Genko Genkov’s presence is particularly powerful, embodied in four oils that testify to his bold, elemental abstraction. Among them, the large-scale "Lake Pancharevo" stands out as a masterwork of chromatic energy and sweeping emotional intensity. Together, these works chart the rich and varied terrain of Bulgaria’s visual culture, from the lyrical precision of early 20th-century masters to the daring experimentation of the avant-garde, offering a Winter Auction of exceptional depth, character, and artistic resonance.
